Veterinary Electrotherapy For Small Animals
Electric current used for pain reduction and muscle stimulation in veterinary rehabilitation and physiotherapy. TENS and NMES technology — fast pain relief and accelerated functional recovery.

What Is Veterinary Electrotherapy
Electric Current for Pain Relief &
Muscle Function
In veterinary rehabilitation and physiotherapy, electric current is used for two basic purposes — reduction of pain perception and muscle stimulation. The analgesic action is promoted by electricity through membrane hyperpolarisation using the ‘gate control’ principle.
Electrotherapy stimulation targets both normally innervated and denervated muscles. While it does not replace movement in neuromuscular reactivation, it is a valuable complement — one of the few aids that allows interaction with muscle tissue in a way that differs from passive mobilisation.
Against Pain
TENS — Analgesic Electrotherapy
Analgesic currents — better known as TENS — are indicated in the symptomatic treatment of peripheral pain. They are particularly effective in the management of pain that accompanies most inflammatory processes and in osteoarthritis.
Acute Pain
— Post-surgical
— Acute injuries
— Inflammatory flare-ups
Chronic Pain
— Osteoarthrosis
— Tendinopathies
— Muscle pain
For Muscle Mobilisation
NMES — Neuromuscular Electro-Stimulation
Electric current promotes muscle contraction both by acting on the motor neuron and on the muscle itself. Electrotherapy stimulation targets both normally innervated and denervated muscles.
Normally Innervated Muscles
— Increased muscle tone and trophism
— Muscle strengthening
Denervated Muscles
— Accelerated recovery
— Increased joint stability
— Greater range of motion
TENS Indications
— Post-operative pain from cosmetic surgery
— Post-operative pain from spinal surgery
— Pain from osteoarthritis
— Pain from discopathy
— Pain from lumbo-sacral stenosis
— Pain from Wobbler Syndrome
— Increased range of motion
— Reduced muscle contracture
NMES Indications
— Neurological disuse atrophies / hypomyotrophies
— Orthopaedic disuse atrophies / hypomyotrophies
— Muscle strengthening for post-operative recovery
— Denervated muscle stimulation
— Improved joint stability
The Advantages
Why Choose Veterinary Electrotherapy
Fast Pain Reduction
Rapid relief from acute and chronic pain through the gate control mechanism — providing measurable comfort for the animal without sedation.
Prolonged Analgesic Effect
Pain relief that extends beyond the treatment session itself, supporting a more comfortable recovery between appointments.
Denervated Muscle Stimulation
One of the few therapeutic tools capable of directly stimulating denervated muscle tissue — supporting recovery where passive mobilisation alone cannot help.
Easier Functional Recovery
.Supports faster return to normal movement and function by complementing physiotherapy and rehabilitation protocols already in place.
