What is laser therapy

Low-level laser therapy & photobiomodulation.

Laser therapy for physiotherapy & rehabilitation

Laser therapy, also called low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or photobiomodulation, uses targeted wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular repair, reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

The Globus Physiolaser range emits light at 808nm and 980nm (1064nm optional), penetrating skin and subcutaneous tissue to reach muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. Treatment is painless and non-invasive.

Physiotherapists, sports medicine clinicians, podiatrists and veterinary professionals use laser therapy for tissue repair, wound healing and pain management.

How it works

Four mechanisms of action.

Cellular

Light is absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase in the mitochondria, increasing ATP production. Damaged cells have more energy to repair and regenerate.

Anti-inflammatory

Reduces pro-inflammatory prostaglandins, lowers vascular permeability and improves lymphatic drainage, helping to resolve acute inflammation and calm chronic states.

Analgesic

Increases endorphin and serotonin release, blocks pain signal transmission and desensitises nociceptors. Many patients feel relief during or soon after treatment.

Tissue regeneration

Fibroblast activity and collagen synthesis increase, improving repair in tendons, ligaments and skin. Better blood supply supports long-term tissue health.

Clinical applications

What laser therapy treats.

Pain relief

Endorphin release and neural modulation reduce both acute and chronic pain.

Wound healing

Fibroblast stimulation and collagen synthesis support closure, including slow-healing wounds and post-surgical incisions.

Tissue repair

Increased ATP and improved cellular metabolism support tendon, ligament and muscle repair.

Nerve regeneration

Supports peripheral nerve regeneration and reduces neuropathic pain, for example in carpal tunnel syndrome.

Who uses laser therapy

Across every specialty.

Physiotherapists

Laser complements manual therapy and exercise by supporting tissue healing and reducing pain, so patients can progress faster.

Podiatrists

Used for heel pain, plantar fasciitis, nail conditions and diabetic foot wound management.

Sports therapists

Rapid acute injury management and shorter return-to-play timelines.

Veterinary professionals

The Globus LaserVet range applies the same technology to small animal and equine wound healing, pain and post-operative recovery.
