What Is Laser Therapy

Low-Level Laser Therapy & Photobiomodulation

Laser therapy — also called Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) or photobiomodulation — uses targeted wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular repair, reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

The Globus Physiolaser range emits light at 808nm and 980nm, penetrating skin and subcutaneous tissue to reach muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. Treatment is painless, non-invasive and supported by extensive clinical research.

Physiotherapists, sports medicine clinicians, podiatrists and veterinary professionals worldwide use laser therapy for tissue repair, wound healing and pain management.

How It Works

Four Mechanisms Of Action

Cellular Mechanism

Therapeutic light is absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase in the mitochondria, increasing ATP production. This gives damaged cells more energy to repair and regenerate — the process known as photobiomodulation.

Anti-Inflammatory Effects

Laser therapy reduces pro-inflammatory prostaglandins, lowers vascular permeability and improves lymphatic drainage — resolving acute inflammation and calming chronic inflammatory states.

Analgesic Effects

It increases endorphin and serotonin release, blocks pain signal transmission and desensitises nociceptors. Many patients feel pain reduction during or immediately after treatment.

Tissue Regeneration

Fibroblast activity and collagen synthesis increase, improving repair in tendons, ligaments and skin. Angiogenesis enhances long-term blood supply and tissue health.

Clinical Applications

What Laser Therapy Treats

Pain Relief

Endorphin release and neural modulation reduce both acute and chronic pain.

Wound Healing

Fibroblast stimulation and collagen synthesis accelerate closure — particularly effective for non-healing wounds and post-surgical incisions.

Tissue Repair

Increased ATP and improved cellular metabolism enhance tendon, ligament and muscle repair.

Nerve Regeneration

Supports peripheral nerve regeneration and reduces neuropathic pain — used in carpal tunnel syndrome and peripheral neuropathy.
