Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy for arthrosis, fractures, bone oedema and inflammation. The most widely used instrumental therapy for pain and osteoarticular problems — backed by clinical research.
What Is Magnetotherapy
Pulsed electromagnetic fields are low-frequency waves that help damaged or weakened bone and joint structures rebuild their microstructure.
Magnetotherapy is one of the most widely used instrumental therapies for pain and osteoarticular problems. Globus has led this field for years, producing reliable, effective, certified medical devices supported by ongoing clinical research.
Clinical Applications
The electromagnetic signal penetrates joint structures, exerts an anti-inflammatory effect and reactivates bone and cartilage metabolism. Joint stiffness reduces after just a few sessions.
PEMF promotes fracture healing with lower rates of delayed consolidation, osteonecrosis and reoperation. It also significantly reduces post-fracture pain and can be used over casts and braces.
The most frequently prescribed physical therapy for bone oedema — reducing pain and inflammation while stimulating bone tissue regeneration.
Effective for acute inflammation after injury or surgery, and for chronic conditions such as tendonitis, carpal tunnel and epicondylitis. It improves functional recovery and can reduce anti-inflammatory drug use.
Clinical Evidence
94% vs 70%
Hip Fracture Recovery
Pain reduction in subjects receiving active PEMF after femoral neck fracture surgery, compared with placebo. Fewer complications and less pain throughout rehabilitation.
32% vs 15%
Knee Osteoarthritis
Average improvement after 18 PEMF sessions, sustained at 26% vs 8% one month later.
74% vs 25%
Post Surgical Recovery
Of patients receiving active PEMF stopped taking anti-inflammatory medication after arthroscopic knee surgery.
The Studies
E. Betti et al., 1999. PEMF was tested on subjects with femoral neck fracture undergoing surgery within 3 days of trauma. Protocol: 8 hours daily for 90 days at 75Hz and 30 Gauss. Active PEMF led to complete bone consolidation, fewer complications and significantly less pain — 94% pain reduction versus 70% in the placebo group.
Trock et al., 1994. A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial tested PEMF on osteoarthritis of the knee and cervical spine. Protocol: 18 treatments of 30 minutes, 3 to 5 times per week at 12Hz and 25 Gauss. Active PEMF improved knee osteoarthritis 32% vs 15% (sustained at 26% vs 8% one month later) and cervical osteoarthritis 32% vs 22% (sustained at 29% vs 9%).
Zorzi et al., 2017. A prospective, randomised, double-blind study evaluated PEMF after arthroscopic knee surgery, starting 5 days post-surgery. Protocol: 6 hours daily for 90 days at 75Hz and 30 Gauss. Active PEMF reduced inflammation, improved functional recovery and limited anti-inflammatory drug intake — 74% stopped medication versus 25% in the placebo group.
